A Japanese coffee shop, which generated tons of buzz when it opened in Toronto, is opening a location on the Mississauga border.
According to a post on the CF Sherway Gardens website, Japanese coffee brand % Arabica is opening a new location in Sherway Gardens (25 The West Mall) in Etobicoke. A sign announcing % Arabica’s opening soon is posted on the shop beside Club Monaco in the mall.
According to a press release last summer from % Arabica, the “world-renowned” shop opened its first location in Canada at Yorkdale Shopping Centre in December 2022.
The shop is known for its elegant design and premium coffee.
“When you step foot into the thoughtfully designed % Arabica, you’ll feel your coffee experience has been up-levelled with a space that allows you to enjoy the moment with the world’s best coffee,” the coffee shop said in the press release.
Founded by Kenneth Shoji in Kyoto, Japan, in 2013, % Arabica is an independent coffee brand with more than 150 stores in 18 countries in North America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Shoji was inspired to start the company after realizing he wanted an amazing cup of coffee every day—with an equally amazing customer experience, according to the release.
To learn the coffee business, he purchased a coffee farm in Hawaii, started a green bean trading company, and exported Japanese coffee roasting machines. With this experience under his belt, he launched % Arabica.
% Arabica sources largely from small farms and serves their unique blend, as well as single-origin beans from around the world.
Menu items include espresso-based coffees, specialty lattes, drip coffees, matcha (green tea) and specialty offerings such as matcha soft ice cream and baked goods like the brown butter espresso chocolate chip cookie.
The opening date for the Sherway Gardens location has not yet been announced.
The Sherway Gardens location follows a Union Station shop, which opened on July 26 last year.
