Ontario’s police watchdog agency is looking into what led to a crash involving a Peel Regional Police cruiser that left a woman seriously injured in Brampton.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says it is investigating following a two-car collision in Brampton around 9:30 p.m. on Monday night.
The crash happened while a Peel police officer was headed to a medical-related call in a marked cruiser. The SIU says the male officer “was involved in a collision” with a 23-year-old female driver at the intersection of Bovaird Drive East and Dixie Road.
Both the officer and the woman were transported to hospital, and the SIU says the woman was “seriously injured” in the crash while the officer suffered minor injuries.
Peel police reported the incident to the SIU, which is responsible for investigating firearm-related incidents or any situation when police action results in a death or serious injury.
The SIU did not comment on the nature of the woman’s injuries.
Anyone with information about this investigation, including video or photos, is asked to contact the SIU at 1-800-787-8529 or online at www.SIU.on.ca/en/appeals.php.
