A woman in her 50s who was stabbed to death at a Mississauga motel as the long weekend neared an end knew her killer and that man is now being hunted by police.
Peel Regional Police aren’t saying much about the slaying, other than “the suspect and victim were known to each other, however not involved in an intimate partner relationship.”
Investigators were called to the Studio 6 motel, at Britannia Road East and Whittle Road, east of Hurontario Street and steps south of Highway 401, just before 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning.
Once at the scene, police discovered the body of the woman, described as being in her 50s, inside one of the rooms at the extended-stay motel. Peel’s 12th murder victim of 2024 had been stabbed at least once.
Police officers stood guard outside a third-floor room at the north Mississauga motel on Monday and a mobile command unit had been set up at the scene.
Police said on Tuesday morning they weren’t providing any more information on the slaying. They have not released any details about the suspect.
Police earlier described the killing as an “isolated incident.”
The area of Mississauga where the killing occurred is known for criminal activity, area residents have said.
