A woman who was hit by a school bus in Richmond Hill earlier this week has died in hospital.
York Regional Police said that officers responded just before 3 p.m. Tuesday to Yonge Street, north of Silverwood Avenue, after a pedestrian was struck.
“When they arrived on scene, they located an 84-year-old woman with a head injury and found the school bus had left the scene,” police said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital but her condition was determined to have been more serious and she was transferred to a trauma centre.
In an update, police said the woman died in hospital on Wednesday.
The driver of the bus has been identified and an investigation is ongoing, police said.
Const. Lisa Moskaluk told INsauga.com that officers haven’t classified the collision as a hit-and-run.
“We are still investigating whether it was a hit-and-run or whether the driver was aware he hit someone. At this time, the driver has not been charged,” she said on Wednesday.
Moskaluk said it’s not believed children were on the bus at the time — the bus was leaving a gas station when the collision occurred.
Police are again appealing for anyone with information or video footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
