Woman exploited into sex work leads to human trafficking charges laid in Brampton: police

An accused human trafficker charged with assault and other charges made a court appearance in Brampton after police say a woman was exploited in the sex trade.
Investigators were contacted in October by a victim who said a Toronto man had “recruited” a woman into sex work, Peel Regional Police say.
Police say the man had taken control of aspects of an adult female’s life, “exploited her in the sex trade, and benefited from it financially.”
Then in November, police say investigators arrested and charged a 31-year-old man from Toronto with multiple offences including trafficking in persons, advertising sexual services, assault, and forcible confinement.
Peel Regional Police say Andre Davis, 31, of Toronto, has been charged with:
- Trafficking in persons
- Advertising sexual services
- Exercise control, direction or influence
- Receiving benefit resulting from trafficking in persons
- Material benefit from sexual services
- Assault
- Forcible confinement
- Assault with a weapon
- Forcible confinement
The accused was held for a bail hearing and made a court appearance in Brampton, police say.
