Woman dies following collision between bicycle and vehicle in Niagara Falls

A 36-year-old woman from Niagara Falls has died after a collision between a vehicle and bicycle in the early hours of Tuesday (Sept. 3) in Niagara Falls.

Niagara Regional Police, along with along with Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and Niagara Falls Fire Service personnel, responded to calls of a serious crash between a bicycle and black 2010 Acura ZDX around 12:59 a.m. on McLeod Road east of Drummond Road.

“The initial investigation determined that a bicycle and a black 2010 Acura ZDX had collided on the roadway,” said police.

A 30-year-old male from Niagara Falls was driving the bicycle along with a 36-year-old female passenger who was seated in a wagon. The Acura was being driven by a 43-year-old female from Thorold.

Paramedics and Fire Service personnel dealt with the driver of the bicycle and his passenger and found the female passenger to be in critical condition.

She was taken to a local hospital where she later died due to her injuries. The male suffered serious injuries and was also transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the Acura was not injured.

A section of McLeod Road between Alex Avenue and Drummond Road was closed for the investigation before it was reopened.

Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit, assisted by the NRPS Forensics Unit, have been called in to investigate. Police say the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
