Dog attack death in northern Ontario.

Police and the Ontario coroner are investigating after an 81-year-old woman was attacked and killed by three dogs earlier this week inside her home near North Bay.

Ontario Provincial Police said emergency crews responded to a 911 call on Monday morning around 10 a.m. to find that the elderly woman was dead inside a home in Bonfield, some 30 kilometres southeast of North Bay.

The caller to 911 reported that one person had been fatally injured after being attacked by the dogs, North Bay OPP said in a news release on Friday.

OPP said in an email to INsauga.com “the dogs were in the residence at the time of the attack and were still at the residence” when police arrived.

The OPP spokesperson added that the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has placed a 10-day quarantine on the dogs involved.

No foul play is suspected and no criminal charges have been laid at this time, police said.

Police did not say if the woman was the owner of the dogs, nor did they identify the breed or breeds of the animals involved.

The police spokesperson did tell INsauga.com that “the dogs and the victim both lived in the residence.”

“The investigation is now being led by the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario in collaboration with the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service,” OPP said in the news release.

A post-mortem examination was conducted Wednesday in Sudbury, investigators said.
