Olive Krantz, the wife of Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz, has died.
Krantz passed away at the age of 88 on Dec. 31 after a year spent in long-term care.
A long-time Milton resident Olive met the future mayor while they were in high school and married in 1958.
Gordon started off with his own business and then became involved in politics by the mid-60s, eventually become mayor of Milton, a position he has held since 1980 making him one of the longest-serving mayors in Canadian history.
While her husband has stood in the political spotlight, Olive Krantz stayed largely behind the scenes but that never stopped her from weighing in with her viewpoint when asked.
“She never held back her opinions and you felt special to be included in those conversations,” said former Milton Councillor Rick Di Lorenzo on a social media post. “She would give you the straight truth.”
Others have commented online that Olive Krantz was strong supporter of Milton and knew its history well and when she spoke it was coming from a place of knowledge and experience.
“She saw Milton grow from the small village that it was to what it has now become, one of the fastest growing municipalities in the country,” wrote another commentator online. “And she could tell you all about it. How it happened and who made it happen. She had a great memory and had a lot of insight into the community. She will be missed but be remembered.
Olive Krantz leaves her husband Gordon, two children, six grandchildren, and eight greatgrandchildren.
A celebration of life is expected later this year.
