Whitby Mayor Don Mitchell is warning residents of a piece of racist literature being left at people’s homes for the second time in less than a month.

Mitchell released his first statement condemning the content on January 13. “It has come to my attention there is a disgusting piece of racist literature being left at some homes in our town right now,” he said in a open letter at the time.

He said he would share no further details regarding the content of the literature, “as to not give a platform to this rubbish.” Mitchell added that DRPS had been notified and was investigating as of the January statement.

On February 9, Mitchell reiterated these comments and again said, “I condemn both the content and the act itself. As I’ve stated previously, hate speech of any kind has no place in our community, and the Town of Whitby will not tolerate it.”

Anyone who received this such messages, or has information pertinent to the investigation can call DRPS at 1-888-579-1520 to file a report.
