What’s Open & Closed Labour Day in Ontario cities and towns

Here’s what’s open and closed on Monday, September 2, 2024, in Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, Hamilton, Oakville, Milton, Burlington, Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering, Clarington, Niagara Falls and the Niagara Region.
This year, Labour Day falls on Monday, Sept. 2, and many places, businesses and services are closed on that day.
While government buildings, services and many businesses will be closed on Monday, some places will remain open. However, to avoid disappointment, it’s best to call ahead or check online to confirm if your favourite restaurant or local grocery store is open.

Square One Shopping Centre is the lone major shopping centre that’ll be open on Labour Day in Canada’s seventh-largest city.
On Sept. 2, non-emergency federal, provincial, municipal (including City Hall) and Region of Peel offices will be closed. Banks, libraries and some community centres will also be closed.

Canada Post will be closed (no mail pick-up or delivery) and there will be no waste collection on Sept. 2. Garbage and recycling will be picked up one day later than usual and Community Recycling Centres will be closed on Labour Day as well.
MiWay will operate on a regular Sunday schedule and GO Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule.

On Labour Day, all non-emergency federal, provincial, municipal (including City Hall) and Region of Peel offices will be closed. Peel services that will not operate on the holiday include Access Peel counters, the Dental Services Contact Centre, early years and child care services, the Family Health Call Centre, vaccination clinics, healthy sexuality clinics, Ontario Works in Peel, the needle exchange/harm reduction mobile van and housing services/client services. Banks, libraries and some community centres will also be closed.

Brampton Transit and Zum will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule and GO Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule.

On Monday, Sept. 2, banks, city/town halls, non-emergency federal and provincial government offices and non-emergency Halton Region offices will be closed in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills. Most community centres, seniors’ centres, pools, arenas and libraries will be closed, along with the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts and the Mattamy National Cycling Centre.
There will be no garbage pickup on Labour Day (all waste collection will be one day later than usual).
Canada Post will be closed (no mail pick-up or delivery).
Oakville Transit will run on a holiday service schedule, Burlington Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule, Milton Transit will not operate and GO Transit will run on a Saturday schedule.
In Oshawa, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Clarington, Uxbridge, Brock and Scugog, non-emergency federal, provincial, municipal (including city and town halls) and Durham Region offices will be closed on Labour Day. Banks, post offices, libraries, waste transfer stations and most community centres will also be closed.
There will be no waste pickup, so garbage and recycling will be collected one day later than usual.
Pickering Town Centre, Whitby Mall and Oshawa Centre will be closed.
Durham Transit and PULSE buses will operate on a holiday/weekend schedule and GO Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule.

Also, non-emergency federal, provincial, municipal (including city and town halls) and Niagara Region offices will be closed. There will be no garbage pickup on Monday, Sept. 2. All waste collection will be one day later than normal.
GO Transit will operate on a holiday schedule and transit services throughout the Niagara Region will operate on holiday hours.

Garbage and recycling (blue box, green bin and yard waste) will be collected one day later, with no pickup on Sept. 2.
For transit, DARTS will be operating on holiday service hours while HSR will operate on a Sunday schedule. GO Transit will run on a Saturday schedule.

While most tourist attractions will be open in Canada’s biggest city, non-emergency federal, provincial and municipal services (including City Hall) will be closed.
Residents and visitors should also note that Canada Post (no mail pick-up or delivery), banks and libraries will also be closed on Labour Day.
Most bars, cafes and restaurants that are typically open on Mondays will be open, but call ahead to be sure.
Transit users should note that the TTC will operate on holiday service hours while GO Transit will run on a Saturday schedule.
