Vehicle crash into home injures 7-year-old in Ontario, alleged impaired driver arrested in Peel

Police say a 44-year-old man has been arrested following an incident that saw a school put on a partial lockdown in an Ontario town.

The OPP says officers from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment were working an active investigation around 9 a.m. on Wednesday when they were called to a home on Frazer Drive in the town of Midland, approximately 50 kilometres north of Barrie.

Police closed off Frazer Drive and put nearby St. Theresa’s High Catholic High School on a hold-and-secure order “in an abundance of caution.”

The partial lockdown was in place for hours while police were on the scene with the hold-and-secure order lifted around 1 p.m. Police did not say whether any injuries were reported during the incident.

Few details about the investigation have been released but police say that a 44-year-old man from Midland was arrested and hit with “numerous” charges related to “threats and weapons offences.”

The name of the accused hasn’t been released and police say he is still in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Hold-and-secure orders are used as a precaution to protect students and staff from a potential incident in the area. They are less restrictive than a full lockdown while preventing any visitors from entering the school.
