brampton driver licence suspended way too fast

Police have suspended a Brampton man’s driver’s licence after clocking a car travelling 70 km/h over the limit.

The traffic stop happened on County Road 27 near the 12th Line in Bradford on Tuesday when South Simcoe Police say the driver of a Honda Accord was clocked going 150 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

Police say the 23-year-old male driver from Brampton was going “way too fast” and was charged with speeding and stunting offences. The man’s licence was also suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

“The faster you drive, the higher your risk of losing control and being involved in a crash, which can be fatal or cause serious injury,” South Simcoe Police said in a social media post.

The traffic stop has police reminding drivers that fines for speeding and stunting can range from $2,000 to $10,000, with maximum licence suspensions of two years for a first conviction and a maximum of six months in jail.

Members of the public are urged to report impaired, aggressive or careless driving by calling 911 when safe to do so. Anonymous tips may also be provided to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
