Walmart closes after a flood in Milton

Shoppers in Milton’s largest department store have been forced to leave the premises because of flooding.

Walmart, located at Milton Crossroads Plaza on Steeles Avenue, shut its doors at about 11 a.m. today (July 16) as water entered the store and started covering the floor.

“Yes, we are closed because of flooding in the store,” a representative of Walmart told INhalton.com.

Shoppers who were in the store at the time said that the water was evident in parts of the store once the sky opened up outside with the heavy rainfall.

“I’ve never seen this happen in Milton before. Closing a Walmart is a big deal. People were being told to leave but it was done in an orderly fashion,” said a member of a Milton online chat group.

According to reports, the water started to come in through the ceiling and the front entrance area was affected.

“Everyone was kept safe but it looks like more water could start to come in, they had no choice but to close,” wrote a Facebook user.

Operators of other stores in the plaza indicate they are still open for business but are worried about the non-stop rain.

“This does not look good, I don’t know what to do if this happened to us,” said a fast-food operator in the business
