UPDATE: Multiple roads have been closed around Brampton due to rising flood waters.

Repair crews are working through a thunderstorm warning as flood waters are rising in Chinguacousy Park and across Brampton on Tuesday.

Heavy rain has caused chaos on roads across Brampton and Mississauga on Tuesday with videos shared on social media show flooding at Dixie and Orenda Roads, as well as rising waters in Chinguacousy Park.

Localized flooding was also reported at Peel Village Golf Course and Avondale Day Care.

Road closures include Heritage Road between Mayfield Road and Embleton Drive, and at Wanless Drive between Winston Churchill Boulevard and Mississauga Road.

The city says the roads have been closed to vehicles and pedestrians until further notice.

On top of the flooding, a watermain break was reported shortly after 11 a.m on Centre Street north of Ardglen Drive. Peel Public Works says road crews have closed lanes while repairs are underway.

Water service in the area is out but the region hasn’t said how many homes and businesses are impacted by the outage.

The break happened around the same time Environment Canada issued rainfall warnings for Brampton, Mississauga, Caledon, Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Halton Hills, Milton, Pickering, Ajax, Oshawa and Whitby.

Toronto Pearson Airport recorded 97.41 mm of rain in under four hours.

Brampton Fire & Emergency Services is warning residents to stay away from moving water, avoid flooded areas, keep children and pets away from water.

BFES says never to drive through flooded areas if possible, and to check your basements for flooding.

Flooding has also closed the eastbound Highway 401 on-ramp at Mavis Road in Mississauga, according to Ontario 511. Flooding was also spotted earlier in the day in Clarkson.

“If water in your basement has risen above the electrical outlets, baseboard heaters, furnace or electrical panel, DO NOT enter the basement until the power has been disconnected by the local electric utility,” the city said in a release.
