Brampton’s very own superhero took travellers by surprise when he appeared in full caped-crusader garb at the Montréal-Trudeau International Airport this week.

“There are weird work days like today where you just….board The Batman,” Air Canada worker Marie Weihnachten wrote on an Instagram post showing Brampton Batman boarding a plane in Montreal.

Brampton Batman, whose not-so-secret identity is really local resident Stephen Lawrence, can often be seen wowing crowds of all ages with his ’80s-era Batmobile and ultra-realistic costume at community events in the city and across Ontario.

But Brampton Batman wasn’t in Quebec to fight crime as he tells INsauga.com he was in Montreal for a surprise at a local orphanage and public school, but that didn’t stop users on social media from speculating on why The Dark Knight was catching a flight.

“Guess the Batplane is in the shop?” wrote one user.

Many took the opportunity to take shots at road conditions in the city with one saying “even Batman can’t cope with the construction.”

Brampton Batman tells INsauga.com that he tried to stay out of sight until boarding so he didn’t get “swarmed” or become a distraction for airport security.

“Some of the best interactions that I do wish would make it to social media, unfortunately never make it,” he said.

Brampton Batman says he may make another trip to Montreal in 2025 if he gets the call, which one can only assume comes from a Bat Signal.

Lawrence has been hitting the streets as Brampton Batman for around a decade. And while he’s usually out at events, Brampton Batman has been spotted doing all manner of mundane, everyday tasks like going to Shoppers Drug Mart in full costume and even doing roadside maintenance on the Batmobile.

Earlier this year, Brampton Batman appeared in Mississauga for the Classic Country Thursdays series in Port Credit and he’s even had international press with a feature on RTL German Television in 2018.

He was also briefly featured in a video for Peel Public Health to encourage kids not to be afraid of COVID-19 vaccinations before it was pulled down due to complaints.
