Brampton got a special visit from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a celebration of the city’s Filipino community on the weekend.

The Fiesta Extravaganza Filipino Festival had food vendors, performers and guests come out to Brampton’s Chinguacousy Park on Saturday to celebrate and honour Philippine culture in Canada.

It also saw Trudeau and Dep. Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland stop by to visit with guests and share in the festivities.

“The Filipino community here really knows how to throw a party,” Trudeau said in a social media post recapping his visit, thanking Brampton “for the warm welcome.”

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown and other members of city council were also in attendance, with Brown addressing the crowd at the closing ceremonies.

Trudeau also stopped in Mississauga on Saturday for MP Iqra Khalid’s annual summer barbecue at the Erin Meadows Community Centre.

The prime minister’s trip to Peel follows a stop in Brampton last month for a fundraiser at the Dreams Convention Centre, and amid calls for Trudeau to step down after an upset byelection defeat in Toronto-St. Paul’s in June.
