VIDEO: Roads flooded as heavy rain continues across southern Ontario

As heavy rainfall continues in southern Ontario flooding has been reported on roads and in basements.

As of just after 11 a.m. today (July 16), Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a rainfall warning for Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon, Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Halton Hills, Milton, Pickering, Ajax, Oshawa and Whitby.

“Extremely heavy rain is expected,” the warning states. “The ground, already near saturation, has little ability to absorb further rainfall.”

There could be up to 125 mm of rain today.

This is the second day of heavy rainfall. Yesterday, flash flooding left multiple roads and intersections underwater in Burlington and even forced the closure of a furniture store.

Photos and video are showing flooding across southern Ontario.

Flooding closed the Highway 401 eastbound on-ramp at Mavis Road in Mississauga, according to Ontario 511. Flooding was spotted earlier in the day in Clarkson.

Later, streets near Dundas Street and Dixie Road flooded. Approximately 50 cars got stuck on Queen Frederica Drive. There were also reports of flooding near Square One.

It appears the Lake Shore was closed in the Ontario Place area.

Flooding has closed the Highway 401 eastbound on-ramp at Keele Street in Toronto, according to Ontario 511.

In western Ontario, flooding was reported in the London area. The eastbound lanes of Highway 402 near Nauvoo Road, west of London, were closed due to flooding, according to the OPP.

Westbound lanes were closed at Kerwood Road.

“For your safety, please drive carefully and do not attempt to drive on closed roads,” the OPP warned.
