Palestine protest Square One Mississauga today.

Peel Regional Police are advising motorists to be aware of potential traffic disruptions this afternoon, particularly near major highways close to Square One in Mississauga, as protests are taking place.

Police tweeted via X (formerly Twitter) shortly before 3:30 p.m., alerting residents and individuals in the area to an ongoing demonstration, leading to increased police presence aimed at helping with traffic flow.

Authorities did not specify what demonstrations are happening in their tweet, though there have been numerous public protests across the GTA and beyond last year and into 2024, primarily focused on the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Many streets near and along Square One have reportedly been blocked off including Burnhamthorpe Road.

Recent videos posted on X by users show large gatherings of people waving Palestinian flags and engaging in chants.

Additionally, all on-ramps and off-ramps connecting to Highway 403 from Highway 10 have been closed by police.

The protests initiated near Highway 10, with some activity observed near Square One’s bus terminal where flags were reportedly seen.

Peel police have not specified a timeline for when the protest is expected conclude or when the roads are anticipated to reopen for motorists.

Drivers are urged to use alternate routes for the time being.
