Heavy rain this afternoon across southern Ontario has caused flooding in some areas, leading to the closure of major roads in Mississauga.
Peel Regional Police posted on social media shortly before 3 p.m. to alert residents and drivers about serious flooding in the area from the torrential rainfall earlier today.
Police say that there is serious flooding near Rathburn Road West and Elora Drive, which was reported shortly before 2 p.m., and has forced the closure of all eastbound lanes on Elora Drive.
In a separate incident, flooding has also been reported at the intersection of Mavis Road and Lafayette Drive. As a result, all eastbound lanes on Rathburn Road between Mavis Road and Confederation Parkway are blocked.
Police are urging individuals to use alternate routes and to not drive through the flooded areas, as it is unsafe and dangerous.
A user on X (formerly Twitter), @martamarychuk, posted images of flooding along Eglinton Avenue in Mississauga. A vehicle was seen submerged in the water and three people were surrounding it.
The user said many traffic lights were out and Peel police were helping stranded drivers.
