Halton Regional Police say they have caught an infamous porch pirate who has been stealing packages from verandas in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills.
Called “Project Whoville,” the investigation was launched earlier this month following multiple reports of gifts disappearing mysteriously from homes.
Targeted were presents, stockings, trees and wreaths, logs from the fireplace and even the roast beast. The suspect had an accomplice, a dog named “Max” who would wear fake antlers. The suspect vehicle was described as a sled.
“His elaborate plan to steal Christmas was foiled,” said police.
Charged with 25 counts of theft under $5,000 is Mr. Grinch of Mount Crumpit.
There are various accounts of his age but he could have been born in 1896, 1905, 1939 or 1957.
“This investigation exemplifies the importance of community collaboration,” said Halton Police Chief, Stephen Tanner, “thanks to vigilant residents and the tireless efforts of our officers, we have not only recovered stolen items but also restored the joy and hope of the holiday season for our community.”
Despite his lengthy list of crimes, Mr. Grinch has been released on bail.
