Netflix and Amazon Prime are bringing the Flower City back to the small screen in a pair of new crime dramas airing this month with scenes shot in Brampton.

Brampton has been the backdrop of many Hollywood productions in recent years, including Netflix production The Man From Toronto starring Kevin Hart, Woody Harrelson and Kaley Cuoco, and the Amazon hit-series Reacher.

But there are two new shows premiering this month on streaming services that showcase Brampton’s draw for big-budget productions.

The first is already airing on Amazon and is a detective drama called Cross, and is based on author James Patterson’s New York Times bestselling works.

Cross is a gritty crime thriller that follows the investigations of talented forensic psychologist and DC Metro Detective Alex Cross.

“Together with his best friend and partner Detective John Sampson, Cross delves into the psyches of America’s most insidious killers while fighting to protect his family from the dangers of the criminal world,” the show’s synopsis reads.

The show stars Aldis Hodge of Hidden Figures and Black Adam fame as Alex Cross who has “an uncanny ability to dissect the intricacies of the human mind, particularly of killers.”

Experience Brampton says three locations in the city were used for the filming of Cross and features in two episodes in the series.

The Brampton Cemetery makes an appearance along with a local parking garage and the exterior of a private residence.

All eight episodes of the show’s first season are streaming now on Amazon Prime with a second season already in the works.

The second production debuting later this week is another crime caper story, this time airing on Netflix.

The Madness is a conspiracy thriller about a CNN analyst who stumbles upon a dead body deep in the woods only to find himself framed for the murder of a notorious white supremacist.

“He moved into a different echelon, and then became a bit of a super star, and he’s a little bit removed from the communities he was advocating for,” lead star Colman Domingo says of his character Muncie Daniels in the new drama – a man on the run and trying to clear his name with the odds stacked against him.

“He’s at a crossroads trying to solve a crime, but at the same time he’s trying to solve something within himself,” says showrunner Stephen Belber in a video promo of the show.

The Madness premiers on Netflix on Thursday and features scenes filmed in northwest residential areas of Brampton.
