There is a heavy police presence in the Mississauga area, as ongoing demonstrations have resulted in temporary closures of major roadways, causing travel delays for motorists.
On Sunday (Oct. 22) at around 3:30 p.m., Peel Regional Police said, “While we respect the individual right to protest, as per the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, our duty and responsibility remains to maintain public order and ensure the safety of everyone.”
The rally is in response to the fight between Israel and Hamas.
As of right now, Burnhamthorpe Road from Kariya Drive to the east and Mavis Road to the west will be backed up due to the rally. Drivers may see additional road closures in the area.
Authorities are asking for the public’s cooperation while lawful and peaceful protests take place.
“Any acts of violence, threats of violence, or vandalism will be investigated,” police said.
If anyone witnesses a crime in progress, are urged to report it immediately to police by calling 9-1-1.
