VIDEO: Man on couch seen in back of moving truck in Brampton

A man was spotted sitting on a couch in the back of a moving pickup truck in Brampton.

In a recent video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by the user @401_da_sarpanch, shows a man comfortably seated on a black (possibly leather) couch loaded in the bed of a pickup truck. He appears to be holding a phone to his ear and engaging in a conversation.

The couch’s position with the tailgate down obscures the license plate, which may have made it difficult for witnesses to write down the number and report the unsafe driving to Peel police.

The driver of the black truck is in the far left lane with the signal on, ready to make a turn.

The exact intersection in Brampton or the date it was recorded is unknown.

Many users flocked to the comment section, sharing their views on dangerous driving.

“Were the police called to ticket the driver for an unsecured load, a passenger not in a seat, and no seat belt?” a concerned user wrote.

While another humorously said, “Taking a Brampton tour in style.”

A few others wondered if the man was behaving like this on purpose to attract attention, as similar videos were popping up online.

In Ontario, riding in the back of a pickup truck on any public road or highway is illegal.

According to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, passengers must be seated in areas designed for passengers and equipped with seatbelts. This law aims to ensure the safety of all vehicle occupants by preventing them from being exposed to higher risks in the event of an accident.

If caught, individuals could face fines of up to $500 or imprisonment for up to six months.

Additionally, driving with the tailgate down is not specifically illegal but can result in fines if it creates unsafe conditions, such as obscuring the view of the license plate.
