The last Brampton-built Dodge Challenger has come off the assembly line, marking the end of an era as the Stellantis automotive assembly plant makes a move towards electric vehicle production.

The Brampton Assembly Plant was the only plant that produced the gas-powered Challenger, Charger and Chrysler 300s – models which are all being phased out this year.

Now the run of the Challenger has officially come to a close as the final unit was completed in Brampton on Dec. 22, with a video posted to social media showing the car coming off the line with a crowd of onlookers witnessing the historic moment.

The Challenger was reintroduced to the Dodge line in 2005 as an updated and modern take on the classic 1970’s muscle car. Dodge also released “Last Call” limited-edition models ahead of the production stop which included the Challenger Shakedown and two models of the Charger – the Super Bee, and Charger King Daytona.

Stellantis announced in May that both its Brampton and Windsor plants would get $3.6 billion overhauls, converting the facilities to multi-energy vehicle assembly plants ready to produce electric vehicles.

The company has said plans for its Brampton plant include a “flexible” assembly line capable of producing battery-electric and hybrid vehicles, diversifying the automaker’s capacity to meet growing consumer demand for low-emission vehicles.

Production of the Jeep Compass crossover is moving to Brampton and will include both traditional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and modern Electric Vehicle (EV) variants starting in late 2025.

The province also committed some $513 million to the developments along with a matching investment from the federal government, with $132 million helping secure the long-term future of the Brampton facility and another $287 million going towards the Windsor plant.
