Police have laid charges against a teenage driver from Brampton following a crash that left one woman dead and sent another to hospital with injuries.

The crash happened on the morning of Oct. 22 when Peel Regional Police say the driver of a black Lexus sedan was headed westbound on Queen Street East between Dixie Road and Central Park Drive in Brampton.

That’s when the driver lost control and crossed into the eastbound lanes and crashed into two other vehicles, police said.

Video of the aftermath shows emergency crews on the scene and a black Lexus with significant damage. Debris can be seen strewn across the roadway, which was blocked off by emergency crews while the investigation was underway.

Two women, a 64-year-old and a 54-year-old, were rushed to hospital following the crash and the 64-year-old was later pronounced dead.

Now, more than a month after the crash, police have charged a 19-year-old from Brampton in the fatal collision.

Peel Regional Police have charged Gurman Cheema, 19, of Brampton with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on a later date.

Police are asking anyone who may have information on the collision to contact investigators by calling  (905) 453–2121 ext. 3710.  Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting www.peelcrimestoppers.ca.
