VIDEO: Bridge demolished as work moves forward on LRT line in Mississauga

It’s out with the old, in with the new as work crews move forward on construction of a section of the $4.6-billion Hazel McCallion light-rail transit line south of the QEW in Mississauga.
The “out with the old” part was recently captured on time lapse video (see below) by project leaders overseeing the massive new Mississauga-to-Brampton LRT line that’ll run along Hurontario Street in both cities when it opens to passengers next year.
With the July opening of a new bridge linking communities on both sides of Hurontario Street in Mississauga’s south end, an old bridge that for years had served its purpose was demolished — and the process was recorded on video.
“Check out this time lapse of the demolition of the Inglewood Drive Bridge, which was decommissioned (in July),” officials with Metrolinx, the provincial agency in charge of the major transit project, said in a post to X (formerly Twitter). “The new Eaglewood Boulevard Bridge is now open, improving traffic flow and accessibility over Mary Fix Creek.”

The Eaglewood bridge, located near Port Credit GO Station and described by project leaders as “a step forward” for the Hazel McCallion Line, opened to traffic in early July along with a new signalized intersection.
The new bridge opening was almost immediately followed by demolition of the old Inglewood bridge.
Officials said earlier the new bridge will help ensure smooth east-west traffic flow for vehicles travelling from one side of the Hazel McCallion Line (Hurontario Street) to the other.
“This new bridge, spanning Mary Fix Creek near Port Credit GO Station, serves as a crucial link connecting Eaglewood Boulevard to Oriole Avenue,” project officials said.
When completed sometime in 2025, the Hazel McCallion Line will run some 22 kilometres along Hurontario Street, starting at Port Credit GO just north of the lake in Mississauga and running north into Brampton with some two dozen stops along the way.
A handful of those stops will be in Mississauga’s downtown core by Square One Shopping Centre where plans for the “downtown loop” were restored earlier this year.
The new bridge over Mary Fix Creek, one of Mississauga’s oldest and most important creeks, will extend from Eaglewood Boulevard in the east to Oriole Avenue in the west, just south of Inglewood Drive.
It’s replacing the aging structure that was in place for decades, project leaders noted.
