It’s official – Brampton’s very own Tajon Buchanan is headed to Italy, signing a $10 million deal with soccer club Inter Milan, making him the first Canadian to play in that country’s top league.

The 24-year-old from Brampton had been reportedly pursued by the Italian team following his performance in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The deal was finalized on Thursday, with the right midfielder signing off on the $10 million contract that will see him move from Belgium’s Club Brugge to Serie A club to Inter Milan through 2028, according to TSN.

The Brampton native is reportedly expected to replace veteran right midfielder and defender Juan Cuadrado following injury and surgery in December.

Buchanan was just one of many Bramptonians to represent Canada at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and in 2021 was named Canada’s men’s soccer player of the month two months in a row.

He also helped secure Canada’s first World Cup qualifying match in 2021 with a goal in the 59th minute against El Salvador.

Buchanan was spotted arriving in Milan to finalize the move on Thursday, making him the first Canadian to play for a Series A club.
