A brazen home invasion north of Toronto on Sunday morning led police to Mississauga and the arrest of a suspect in addition to the recovery of a stolen luxury SUV taken during the robbery.

York Regional Police remain on the hunt for three other young men they believe smashed the glass front door of a Richmond Hill home before bursting inside and stealing various items at around 6:30 a.m.

The home invasion and theft of a Mercedes G-Wagon that was parked in the driveway were captured on surveillance video (see below).

Investigators with York’s hold-up unit say at least one of the culprits was armed with a knife when three young men broke into the Orlon Crescent/Claridge Drive area home. A fourth suspect stayed outside the house, police said.

Various items from inside the home in addition to the luxury SUV were stolen.

Later Sunday, police found the stolen Mercedes G-Wagon in the Britannia Road West/Whitehorn Avenue area of northwest Mississauga, just east of Creditview Road.

At about 8:45 p.m., police arrested one suspect, who tried to flee on foot, and took him into custody.

A 17-year-old youth from Markham is charged with:

  • robbery with a weapon
  • disguise with intent
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (two counts)
  • drive motor vehicle without a licence

Police believe three culprits returned to the home on Monday morning, at about 6:45 a.m., and took another vehicle from the driveway.

With car keys taken on Sunday morning from the home, the young men returned to steal a Mercedes AMG GT63S, police said, adding that vehicle has also since been recovered.

Police describe the three suspects they’re looking for as males between 18 and 25 years old with slim builds.

The investigation is ongoing and police want to speak to anyone with video surveillance or dashcam footage in the area at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6630, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
