Police are warning the public not to approach an “armed and dangerous” man caught on camera firing shots at passing cars on a Mississauga highway.
The shooting happened shortly after 5 a.m. on Tuesday when the OPP says a man armed with a handgun opened fire on multiple vehicles on Highway 401 in Mississauga.
Video of the incident captured on a dash camera and shared on social media shows vehicles stacked up in traffic on the 401 when a man can be seen walking on the highway.
Driver Michael Nunn captured the video and told INsauga.com the incident happened around 5:30 a.m. as he was approaching the scene of a crash.
“I saw the gun pointed at me,” he told INsauga.com of the frightening affair. “I didn’t hesitate and floored it as fast as I could.”
A few seconds later, Nunn says he heard “a distinct shot” or a “loud bang” as he drove past the man. Nunn said his “fight or flight” reflexes kicked in and he sped away from the shooter before calling 911.

No “serious” injuries were reported, but police say the suspect fired multiple shots at passing vehicles before carjacking a driver near the Highway 401 and 410 interchange.
The stolen vehicle was located abandoned on Fasken Drive in Etobicoke. Police say the suspect is considered armed and dangerous, and members of the public are advised to not approach the man if he is spotted.
The suspect is described as a Black male between the ages of 25 and 35 years old. He stands approximately 5’10” tall and has long braided hair down to the middle of his back. The man was wearing jeans, a blue/grey t-shirt and white and black running shoes at the time of the shooting.
He was also wearing a satchel on his shoulder, police said.
As for Nunn, he hopes police are able to locate the suspect saying the incident shouldn’t happen “in this province or this country.”
The suspect was last seen at Highway 427 and Fasken Drive in Etobicoke, and police say anyone who sees him should call 911 immediately.
An investigation into the shooting along with a crash snarled traffic on the 401 on Tuesday.
The collision was reported at 5:46 a.m. in the eastbound collector lanes of Highway 401 at Highway 403, according to the Ministry of Transportation 511 page.
The highway closures caused significant delays but saw some reopenings by around 11 a.m. Police now say all roadways reopened by shortly after 3 p.m.
