An Air Canada flight had an emergency landing at Pearson Airport in Mississauga Monday night.
The flight, AC42, destined for New Delhi, India, left Pearson on time, shortly before 8 p.m. but turned back to the airport a short time later, according to FlightAware, a flight tracking data website.
The flight landed back at Pearson about two hours later at 9:42 p.m.
In a statement, Air Canada said the aircraft developed an engine issue shortly after take-off.
“Following standard operating procedures, the engine was shut down, the pilot requested a priority landing to return to Toronto, as the return was not scheduled, and the aircraft landed normally and taxied to the gate,” the statement read.
Reports indicated the aircraft, a Boeing 777, suffered an engine issue, dumped fuel and declared an emergency.
A video shows the plane landing safely at the airport and emergency vehicles meeting the aircraft on the tarmac.
There were no reports of injury in the incident.
Air Canada said the passengers will be travelling today (May 28) on a new flight.
“Aircraft are designed to operate with one engine and our pilots are trained to fly safely in such situations,” the statement read.
