Police hope video footage of a crime in progress will lead them to a man wanted in connection with nearly 90 thefts from LCBO stores in Mississauga and Brampton.
Investigators with Peel Regional Police are seeking help from the public in finding the man believed to be responsible for the numerous thefts, which took place between October 2023 and last month and amounted to $160,000 in stolen goods.
On at least one occasion, a suspect’s image was captured on surveillance video inside an LCBO store (see video below).
Awil Hassan Abdi, 38, of no fixed address, is wanted on two outstanding warrants that include the following charges:
- theft over $5,000 (three counts)
- theft under $5,000 (16 counts)
- breach of probation
Police said in a news release Wednesday that Abdi was on a probation order for similar theft- and robbery-related offences at the time the other offences were committed.
They’re encouraging him to seek legal counsel and turn himself in to police.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police at 905-453-2121, ext. 1233, or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
