Victim identified in pub stabbing in Hamilton

Police have identified the victim of an early morning stabbing at a Hamilton pub on Sunday.

Hamilton Police say they were called to Peddles Tavern on Barton Street East just before 2 a.m. following reports of a man being stabbed. 

The victim, identified as 34-year-old Shah Ghafoori, was transported to hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Subsequently, police arrested Pierce Herod, 28, of St. Catharines, at the scene.

Herod faces second-degree murder charges.

Investigators say the attack appears to have been unprovoked and there is no indication that the victim and suspect were known to one another.
