Canadian veterans, family members of veterans who have died and current Canadian Armed Forces members can ride GO Transit for free on Remembrance Day, which falls this Saturday.
Officials with Metrolinx, the provincial agency that runs GO, said in a news release that once again this year they are offering the free Nov. 11 rides on GO trains and buses to those who are eligible.
Current CAF members and veterans can also bring along one companion free of charge.
The complimentary service also includes rides on the UP Express train that runs between Pearson Airport in Mississauga and Union Station in downtown Toronto.
GO has been offering the free transit service on Remembrance Day for years.
“As Remembrance Day approaches, we are reminded of the sacrifices made by dedicated members of the Canadian Armed Forces for their service to our country,” Metrolinx officials said in the news release.
“Metrolinx has a longstanding tradition of offering free service on Remembrance Day to veterans and CAF members, and we are committed to continuing this practice as a token of our respect and appreciation.”
Metrolinx reminds those eligible for the free transit rides to wear or carry on them something identifiable such as a medal, beret, blazer, uniform or Veteran’s Service Card.
Family members and companions of veterans are also reminded to bring along documentation.
