An 18 year old driver from Caledon is facing charges after a serious overnight crash and vehicle fire in southern Georgian Bay.

At around 3:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, OPP responded to a 911 call regarding a single vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole on Tiny Beaches Road South at Algonquin Boulevard, Tiny Township.

Officers and paramedics attended the scene to find a Dodge pickup truck that had left the roadway, flipped and struck a utility pole, and caught on fire.

“All five occupants aged 15 to 19 years, all of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) were able to get out of the vehicle suffering only minor injuries,” said OPP.

Following an investigation, police arrested the driver of the vehicle, 18 year old Michael Leszczynski of Caledon Village.

He is charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused was released on a recognizance to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 20, 2022.

OPP are reminding the public about their “Operation Lookout” initiative to keep the roads safe from impaired drivers and educate about safe driving.

“If you see a possible impaired driver on our roadways, waterways or trails please ‘Make the Call’ and dial 911 as impaired driving never ends well,” said provincial police.
