Two people face charges after a vehicle fled a traffic stop and later crashed in Caledon.

The incident began after a police officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 10 in Caledon yesterday (Feb. 29) just after 11 a.m., OPP said in a press release.

The vehicle was allegedly located after being involved in a crash but the occupants had left the scene, OPP said.

Two people were later tracked down and arrested with the help of the Caledon Community Street Crime Unit, OPP Emergency Response Team, and the Peel Regional Police Canine Unit.

Two loaded prohibited firearms, a large quantity of drugs and cash were seized, police said.

O’Neal Johnson-Shirley, 20, of Brampton was charged with possession of drugs (cocaine and opioids) for the purpose of trafficking, several firearm charges including possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered with, and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Xander Cornelius-Miller, 20, of Welland was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from peace officer, possession of drugs (cocaine and opioids) for the purpose of trafficking, and firearm charges.

Both accused were scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on March 1 for a bail hearing.
