Police have released a suspect vehicle description after a hit-and-run in Brampton last month that left a cyclist critically injured.

Ontario Provincial Police said that at around 9 p.m. on Sept. 11, officers were called to assist Peel paramedics with an injured cyclist on the northbound on-ramp to Highway 410 from Steeles Avenue.

Emergency crews located a 33-year-old Brampton resident with a damaged bicycle nearby, police said.

The cyclist was taken to a trauma centre with injuries that were reported to be life-threatening.

“The initial investigation indicated that the cyclist had been struck by a vehicle and that the driver failed to remain at scene,” OPP said.

In an update issued Wednesday, OPP said that investigators believe the vehicle involved is a full-sized black SUV with front-end damage.

It was travelling west on Steeles Avenue prior to the crash, before heading north on Highway 410 from Steeles, police said.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the collision or vehicle in the area of Steeles Avenue between Tomken Road and Highway 410 was asked to come forward.

Police said the collision occurred sometime between 8:40 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Sept. 11.
