Impaired and dangerous driving charges have been laid against a woman under a suspended licence after she crashed into an Ontario home injuring four people including a young child, police say.

The collision happened on Aug. 12 when a vehicle drove into a house in the town of Lakeshore, approximately 160 kilometres west of London and around 40 kilometres east of the Canada-U.S. border, the OPP says.

No one inside the home was hurt in the crash but four people were inside the vehicle when it struck the home. All of the occupants including a 7-year-old child were rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say no arrests were made at the time of the crash but police now say a 35-year-old woman from London was arrested in Peel Region on Friday and charged with multiple offences including operation while impaired and dangerous Operation causing bodily harm.

The OPP says Dana Fountain-Smith, 35, of London, has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), dangerous operation causing bodily harm, driving while under suspension.

Police say the accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor.

The incident has police reminding drivers to report possible impaired drivers or dangerous driving behaviour. Anyone who suspects a driver of operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol is encouraged to call 911 or dial *OPP on your mobile device when safe to do so.

Police agencies across Ontario are now conducting mandatory breathalyzer alcohol screening at every traffic stop on GTA highways, including the QEW and Highways 403 and 401. Impaired driving offences in Ontario can lead to immediate licence suspensions, fines, vehicle impoundment, and enrollment in education or treatment programs.
