Police have laid multiple impaired driving charges against a Brampton man following a crash north of the city earlier this month.

The OPP says officers from the Wellington County detachment were called to the scene of a collision on Ninth Line in the town of Erin, approximately 40 kilometres north of Brampton.

When police arrived they found a motor vehicle had driven into a ditch. No injuries were reported but police say a 32-year-old man from Brampton was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

Police say the accused was released and is scheduled to make a court appearance in Guelph on Oct. 29.

Impaired driving offences in Ontario can lead to immediate licence suspensions, fines, vehicle impoundment, and enrollment in education or treatment programs.

Police agencies across Ontario are now conducting mandatory breathalyzer alcohol screening at every traffic stop on GTA highways, including the QEW and Highways 403 and 401.

Police say anyone who suspects a driver of operating while impaired by drugs or alcohol is encouraged to call 911 and report it when safe to do so. Anonymous tips may also be provided to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
