Update: Police have confirmed the victim was a man and that he suffered life-threatening injuries. They have no information regarding suspects.

One person has been taken to hospital after being shot late this afternoon in Mississauga’s north end.

Gunfire erupted near Battleford Road and Glen Erin Drive, a residential neighbourhood in the Meadowvale area of the city, at about 5 p.m., according to Peel Regional Police.

One victim, who police did not describe, was struck and has since been taken to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries remains unknown.

Police have not provided any description of suspects in the shooting.

They say they’ll maintain a heavy presence at the scene for as long as necessary and they’re urging residents to avoid the area.

The 911 call came in at 5 p.m., according to a police post on social media.
