The snow watch continues as a new winter storm could bring up to 30 centimetres of snow in Ontario this weekend.
Environment Canada issued a winter storm watch for parts of southern Ontario starting Friday (Jan. 12) night and continuing into Saturday.
There were previous alerts of a potential storm coming this weekend bringing up to 20 centimetres of snow, along with a big drop in temperatures.
But the latest winter storm watch puts the snowfall from 15 to 30 centimetres for parts of southern and northeastern Ontario, according to Environment Canada.
There are also strong wind gusts and blowing snow is expected, which could cause hazardous road conditions.
Areas covered by the storm watch are north of the GTA including the Muskoka area, North Bay, Algonquin Park, Bancroft, Sudbury and Haliburton.
These areas will get heavy snow starting Friday night and continue into Saturday. From 15 to 30 centimetres of snow are expected.
“Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations,” Environment Canada states. “Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations.”
Winter Storm Watches have been issued for parts of southern and northeastern ON.
