Take care on the roads — Environment Canada has issued a travel advisory for parts of Ontario as heavy snow is expected today.

The winter weather travel advisory is in effect for the Barrie-Collingwood area, Southern Bruce County and the Sault Ste. Marie area, Environment Canada said in the advisory posted early this morning (Nov. 24).

Lake effect snow is expected this morning with local amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres in the forecast.

The winter weather is expected to intensify this morning and diminish near midnight.

And with the heavy snowfall, there will be reduced visibility.

“Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly,” the warning states.

Highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to the quickly accumulating snow.

“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” Environment Canada warns. “Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.”

The winter weather travel advisory may be upgraded to a snow squall warning, Environment Canada warns.
