‘Unsafe for swimming’: Warning issued at Mississauga waterfront park

Residents are advised to avoid swimming in the water near a Mississauga park until further notice.
A warning has been posted at Jack Darling Memorial Park, located near the waterfront, due to high levels of bacteria.
High levels of bacteria can make swimmers sick with diarrhea, skin rashes, ear pain, cough or congestion, or eye pain.
During the summer, Peel Public Health says it tests the water at least once a week at the region’s four public beaches. At this time, only Jack Darling has been issued a warning.
Mississauga’s Lakefront Promenade (A.E. Crookes Park), Richard’s Memorial Park, and Brampton’s Professor’s Lake Beach remain open for swimming.
Beach water may occasionally have unsafe levels of bacteria due to heavy rainfall, large numbers of water birds, high winds or wave activity, or a large numbers of swimmers.
Public Health began beach testing on June 8 and will continue until September.
