Twin sisters from Mississauga have made it into the finale of Amazing Race Canada.

The identical twins, Lauren and Nicole Peters, 26, have been a strong team in this season’s Amazing Race Canada, winning two legs in the show.

The 10th season of the show started on July 2 on CTV with 11 teams. On Tuesday’s episode, Lauren and Nicole were one of four teams to progress to the final leg of the race.

Currently based in Los Angeles, Lauren and Nicole grew up in Mississauga, attending St. Paul Catholic Secondary School before going on to study science at McMaster University in Hamilton, they told INsauga.com. They have also spent summers at family cottages in the Gravenhurst and Port Severn areas.

“All of our family and friends are still in Mississauga,” said Lauren. “We love everywhere, but we love Mississauga, Toronto, Muskoka, California. We got a room in our heart for all the places.”

Lauren and Nicole have a wide range of interests — they are Canadian National Water Skiing Team members, actors and they were accepted into multiple law schools. They feel their life has prepared them for the competition.

“We always say that our whole life has always, our friends and family say this too, has been like the Amazing Race,” said Nicole. “So we always have had a myriad of different interests, and we’re always somehow running around. So it kind of just felt like the next natural step.”

The pair has appeared in films such as Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted, A Simple Favor, and they took lead roles in Twin Lies, released on Tubi this year. They were also finalists for Miss Universe Canada in 2020.

They said the Amazing Race has been exciting.

“We definitely had a fun time the entire race,” said Lauren.

But it was also tough.

“The whole race is definitely emotionally, physically, mentally challenging,” Lauren said. “It was probably, I mean, as cool as it was, it was also probably one of the most stressful things we’ve ever done in our life.”

Lauren added that the intensity of the race is real.

“You are racing for hours, and you’re giving it your all. You’re sprinting from place to place. You’re using your mind the whole time. So just definitely the whole thing is just very intensive,” she said.

They have been consistently strong throughout the season, securing second-place wins in several legs.

“We obviously were super stoked and proud to be getting second place,” said Nicole. “But after a certain amount of episodes, placing in second and being so close to first, definitely, it was getting a little old and frustrating. So it’s been amazing to secure some wins for sure.”

With each first place in a leg, teams generally win a trip. In their first win, Lauren and Nicole won a trip to Holland.

On Tuesday night, they struggled with a bad achilles injury but still managed a first-place win.

“We went from a position of being in dead last in the middle of the episode, after losing these firefighting face offs, and from overcoming that and pushing through and not letting that bring us down,” said Lauren.

With this first-place finish, they won a trip to Paris.

“We can’t wait to check out Paris, we’ve always wanted to go there,” said Lauren.

While they can’t say if they won the show, they are proud of their achievements.

“I feel like Nicole and I are very happy with how we’ve done this whole race,” said Lauren. “I think we have the highest, if you look at the average, we have the highest average out of all the races. So, go double trouble.”

The grand prize for winning the Amazing Race is two 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV RS vehicles, a round-the-world trip for two courtesy of Expedia and a $250,000 cash prize.

If they win the finale, Lauren and Nicole plan to save for future career aspirations, celebrate with friends and family, put a down payment on a house, and donate some winnings.
