Inflatable waterpark closed due to 'poor water quality' in Brampton lake

Three recreation centres will see partial shutdowns in Brampton starting this week for construction projects, including the closure of Professor’s Lake beach.

Here’s what you need to know about the closures from Brampton Recreation:

Professor’s Lake Recreation Centre

All water activities, the beach and parts of the Professor’s Lake walking trails have been shuttered for the summer season as the city has started maintenance work on the rec centre, asphalt paving, and the building’s elevator and control systems, among other fixes.

The closures are in place as of Tuesday, with both phases of the project expected to wrap in the spring of next year.

The city says plans for phase one includes enhanced exterior lighting, asphalt paving and repairs across various parking lot areas and replacing the power distribution equipment, while phase two of the project will see work on the elevator and a new HVAC system.

Chinguacousy Wellness Centre

Also starting on Tuesday are repairs and upgrades to the Chinguacousy Wellness Centre, the city says. The project will see crews work on “essential phased repairs” to the parking lot including paving, base repairs and concrete work.

Some spaces in the parking lot will remain available during the construction and the driveway access from Peter Robertson Boulevard is not expected to be restricted, the city says.

And on Thursday, mechanical repairs to the centre’s boiler will lead to a one-day closure of the pool, pool change rooms, fitness change rooms, showers and hot tubs. The fitness area and all other programs at the Chinguacousy Wellness Centre will remain open.

Ellen Mitchell Recreation Centre

And lastly, the Ellen Mitchell Recreation Centre is also closed as of Sept. 3 for essential mechanical upgrades ahead of the fall 2024 recreation program session.

The centre’s pool, change rooms and showers have all been closed and no pool drop-in programs will be running while the work is underway, the city says. The closures are expected to be in place until the project’s anticipated completion on Sept. 10.

With the work require closures at three different recreation centres, the city has issued a list of alternate locations for recreation programs and activities across Brampton.
