Halloween treat map can help your kids have an allergy-free trick-or-treat across Ontario

Parents can take some of the fight out of trick-or-treating for kids with allergies with an online treat map for cities and towns across Ontario.

Neighbourhood network app Nextdoor and Food Allergy Canada have teamed up on an online, interactive trick-or-treating map to make Halloween safer and more inclusive for all children with allergies.

Many Halloween treats contain products like peanuts, tree nuts, milk, egg, soy and wheat, which can cause severe allergic reactions in some youth. Parents are encouraged to check the packaging of their kids’ treats for any allergens, but not all the ingredients might be listed or easy to understand.

But with the Nextdoor Treat Map, parents can see which homes in their community are giving out allergy-friendly treats and plan their trick-or-treat route to make sure their kids have a happy Halloween.

“Our Treat Map is a magical tool that not only helps plan your spooky night of frights and delights but also strengthens our commitment to building supportive communities that welcome every little wizard and witch to join in the Halloween spirit,” said Christopher Doyle, managing director of Nextdoor Canada.

From now until Oct. 31, neighbours can log into the Nextdoor app and drop a themed pin and make a post on the Treat Map.  Neighbours can also add images and text to their pins to help inform trick-or-treats of their Halloween plans.

The annual treat map isn’t just limited to homes as businesses can get in on the spooky season action, too.

It will even show you which homes are giving out coveted full-size chocolate bars – a rare but exciting find for your ghouls and goblins.

“With Halloween falling on a school night this year, parents can refer to the Treat Map to find nearby hotspots for trick-or-treating to ensure a fun and efficient evening for their families,” Nextdoor says.

You can find the Treat Map live on the Nextdoor app or by visiting www.Nextdoor.com.
