A Hamilton travel agent faces a steep fine for operating without being registered.

Alistair Hamilton, who operated out of Hamilton, Ontario, was convicted of one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered, the Travel Industry Council of Ontario said in a press release this month.

Hamilton sold European tour packages to customers who were part of a social club, the release said.

At times he operated under the name Flower of Scotland Travel Club, the council said.

The Travel Industry Council of Ontario said Hamilton was fined $12,500, including a victim surcharge, and he was sentenced to a two-year probation. He has previously been charged and convicted of operating as a travel agent without registration.

If a member of the industry or public becomes aware of an unregistered operator selling travel in Ontario, they are encouraged to contact the council at [email protected].
