Trafficking investigation leads to charges for Niagara Falls man

A 34-year-old Niagara Falls man is facing numerous charges in connection with a trafficking investigation in Niagara Falls.

Niagara Regional Police launched an investigation this month into the alleged trafficking of a female over the age of 18 throughout Niagara Falls.

Police identified the perpetrator and arrested him in Niagara Falls on Wednesday (Sept. 11).

Jose Defrias, 34, of Niagara Falls is facing the following charges:

  • Trafficking in Persons
  • Procuring
  • Material Benefit from Trafficking in Persons
  • Material Benefit from Sexual Services
  • Advertising Another Person’s Sexual Services
  • Robbery
  • Assault
  • Uttering Threats

Defrias is being held in custody pending a bail hearing, which is expected to take place Sept. 11 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

Niagara police say the investigation remains ongoing as they suspect there may be more victims.
