A Toronto police officer facing several charges, one of which is connected to Mississauga, was arrested while attempting to leave Canada.
On Saturday, a suspended Toronto police officer was arrested in Montreal while trying to leave the country at the Montreal-Trudeau International Airport, Toronto Police Services said Monday.
On Sunday, Const. Boris Borissov was charged with failing to comply with his release order, police said.
In February 2022, the Toronto Police Service said one of the officers assigned to a missing person’s case took the person’s belongings and gave them to another man who used the missing individual’s debit card to make a purchase at a store in Mississauga. The police officer was also accused of taking a luxury watch from the missing person’s apartment.
The missing person was later found to have died by suicide.
Police also discovered the officer had photos of a credit card and driver’s licence belonging to a woman whose death he investigated in 2020. The card was used for purchases in stores across the GTA.
In April of 2022, Borissov was charged with theft, three counts of breach of trust, trafficking credit card, use credit card in commission of offence, attempt to obstruct justice, possession of property obtained by crime, unauthorized use of a computer system and fraud.
In May 2024, he was found guilty of all 15 charges and was awaiting sentencing, according to news reports. The sentencing hearing was scheduled to begin on Sept. 10.
Borissov, of 53 Division, has 16 years of service and is suspended with pay as per the Police Services Act, police said. After the sentencing hearing, he will face police misconduct charges and could lose his job.
