Toronto cop from Brampton faces drug charges after erratic driver call in Mississauga

A Toronto police officer from Brampton faces several charges after a call for a possible impaired driver in Mississauga.

Police got the call just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday (July 3) in the Hurontario Street and Courtneypark Drive area of Mississauga, a Peel Regional Police spokesperson told insauga.com.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and “multiple” Peel Police cruisers were damaged, the spokesperson said.

Two officers were taken to hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Brian Sukhram, 37, of Brampton was arrested and faces several charges.

A Toronto Police spokesperson told insauga.com that Sukhram is a detective constable assigned to the Drug Squad unit. He has been with Toronto Police for 13 years and was a plainclothes officer.

Sukhram has been suspended with pay under the Community Safety and Policing Act. The spokesperson couldn’t provide further details.

Peel Police said Sukhram was charged with dangerous operation, failure to stop after an accident; flight from peace officer; operation of a vehicle while impaired – alcohol; driving with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit; and possession of methamphetamines and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
