As you may have noticed, I’m a baller. Moet, veal medallions and only the finest woman will satisfy my very expensive tastes.  However, when I am not cruising around Dubai in a Bugatti Veyron I’m saving dough by eating out at the cheapest spots I can find in Mississauga.

Keep in mind; eating out on a budget doesn’t have to be a cheese burger from McD’s or a two dollar Tuesday special at KFC.  In fact I can show you how to eat out on a budget and even have an drink to boot!

5 – Karachi Kitchen

When you are on a budget and want something a little spicy I tend to hit up places where I can get the most flavours out of whatever will fill my guts, and guess what? . A giant take away container of Biryani rice with chicken large enough to feed the Pakistani military should do the trick! Jasmine rice infused with various south Asian spices are layered with chicken or vegetable should satisfy the most concerning palate.  And at $5, you can get the tandori chicken at $3.50 and you will have enough money left over to take that desi princess on your arm for a couple mango lasi’s as well.

4 – Bamboo Bubble Tea

If you are looking for an in-and-out bubble tea joint with food, Bamboo Bubble Tea (also located at Burnhamthorpe and Creditview) is a great choice. With only four seats, you know they don’t want hordes of lingering diners. Other then the bubble tea this place also boasts a wide food selection including Banh Mi Baguettes that are only $2.50 and going up to a whopping $3.25 (it comes with meat).

3 – Nguyet Minh

This is the joint for banh mi in Mississauga and let me tell you it’s cheap, $2.50 for a delicious banh mi sandwich. Vietnam was controlled by the French for a long time and it influenced the local cuisine. These subs made out of Vietnamese baguettes are stuffed with various mystery meats and Vietnamese pate are topped with pickled daikon radish, carrot, mayo and cilantro.  I am honestly salivating just thinking of these little flavours infused carb bombs, and at $2.50 a pop, your outta there full for just over 5 shekels! 2 – Dixie Park

Located on Dixie by Eastgate is the best Asian food court in Mississauga. The price, selection and quantity of food you get is like no other. We are talking about hundreds of dishes to choose from at multiple locations for under $5. There is a newer Vietnamese place that is second from the end that seels banh mi sandwiches for an average spend of $3.30!  If you are not in the mood for Vietnamese, you can try Chinese, Korean and Japanese as well. The only downfall is that this place is all cash.

1 – Leela’s Roti & Doubles

Here is the deal, doubles are cheap and they fill you up. For those of you that don’t have a West Indian wife like I do, doubles are two Bara (bread) with chick pea curry in between them, topped with tamarind, some shredded green mango and pepper sauce, they usually run you about $1.50 each. Word to the wise, unless you are trying to impress your father-in-law, go easy on the pepper sauce or you will be sitting on a cork for the rest of the day. Also, Leela has “recession Tuesdays” in which you can get Dhal Puri or rice with goat, chicken etc. for $3.00. A damn good deal for a player like me!
